We are looking for an experienced and motivated Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse to help lead our nursing team and play a key role in the day-to-day running of our practice.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a confident, proactive RVN with strong leadership skills who is passionate about maintaining high clinical and welfare standards.
You will work closely with the veterinary surgeons and practice management team to support clinical excellence while helping to foster a positive and supportive workplace culture.
Working alongside another Deputy Head Nurse and two Head Nurses, you will play an important role in leading, supporting and developing our nursing team.
This role will be primarily based at our main hospital in Bridgend.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and support members of the nursing team
- Assist in overseeing daily nursing activities, ensuring consistently high clinical standards
- Remain actively involved in clinical nursing duties to maintain and develop your own skills and interests
- Ensure practice policies and protocols are maintained and kept up to date in line with RCVS Practice Standards Scheme (PSS) requirements
- Maintain compliance with RCVS standards and hospital accreditation
- Support the training and development of student nurses and the wider nursing team
- Promote excellent patient care and high standards of client communication
- Assist with stock control, equipment maintenance and clinical audits
- Act as a key point of contact within the clinical team alongside the nurse management team
- Support rota management and help resolve team issues in a constructive and professional manner
- Promote a positive, supportive team environment with a focus on collaboration and continuous learning

We are a small animal practice with a central hospital in Bridgend and four additional branches across South Wales.
Our team has a wide range of clinical interests, and we actively encourage our RVNs to utilise their full skill set. You will be involved in a varied caseload covering both medical and surgical cases.
We are committed to delivering excellent clinical care and maintaining the highest standards. Our hospital holds RCVS Hospital Status and ISFM Gold Cat Friendly accreditation.
We are also a veterinary nurse training practice and are proud to have several certificate holders across both our veterinary and nursing teams.

- Salary £30,000 – £33,000 DOE based on a 4-day week, plus fair share of weekend work.
