    Rhian Matthews

    Clinical Director

    BvetMed BSc (Hons) MRCVS

    Rhian studied genetics and biochemistry at university, but decided to pursue veterinary medicine after time spent working on a dairy farm and a beef and sheep station in New Zealand. She qualified in 2011 and joined our team just two days later! Outside of work, she has been an active member of the Glamorgan Young Farmers Federation from a young age.

    Candice graduated in 2006 and has led our Brackla team for several years. She can often be found in our diagnostic imaging room, ultrasound probe in hand! Outside of work she enjoys walking her chocolate Labradors Toby and Teddy, going to the gym, socialising, shopping and of course, watching rugby!

    Emma graduated from the University of Bristol in 2005 and joined our team in 2009, after time spent working in a busy mixed practice and travelling around South America, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. In her spare time, she enjoys walking her dog, visiting local beaches, snowboarding and horse riding.

    Bleddyn graduated from the University of Bristol in 2012 and joined our team shortly after. He became a clinical director in 2021 and has a particular interest in orthopaedics. Outside of work, he is a huge Cardiff Devils ice hockey supporter and enjoys spending money on cars, trying to avoid collisions with his partner’s horses and looking after his cat.

    Clive graduated from University College Dublin in 1996 and worked across mixed practices in South Wales and Ireland before joining our team in 2008. He has a particular interest in surgery and orthopaedics, and has two dogs of his own. He enjoys football, cycling, playing pool, spending time with his wife and children, and visiting his friends and family in Ireland.

    Daniela graduated from the University of Evora in Portugal in 2012 and moved to the UK in 2015 to develop her veterinary career. She loves all furry creatures, but has a particularly soft spot for cats! In her spare time she loves to travel, eat great food and watch good films. She misses the Portuguese sunshine, but loves working in Wales!

    Sara Nieto Calo

    Sara graduated from the university of Santiago de Compostela in 2016, before moving to Leeds for an internship. She previously volunteered with an animal rescue centre in her university town of Lugo and enjoyed her mixed animal holiday placements. These days she enjoys horse riding and getting to know Wales, alongside some global travel. She doesn’t mind the mild Welsh weather, but does miss her rescue pets and family back home. She is hoping to get a kitten of her own soon!

    Sara graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2004 and joined our team the same year. She works mainly at our Barry branch, and has a keen interest in soft tissue surgery, small animal medicine and acupuncture. She is kept busy with her two small children, but enjoys running, house renovations and growing vegetables in her allotment in her free time.

    Siân was born in Dorset, but has a Welsh name and a Welsh heart! She studied animal science before qualifying as a vet in 2020 and joined our team the following year. In her spare time, she enjoys walking, hiking and exploring the coast and countryside. She is also a passionate Welsh rugby supporter and can often be found at Principality Stadium.

    Hi my name is Morgan I am a local girl from Bridgend. 

    I did my first degree in Bio veterinary science at Hartpury in Gloucester, which was great, because being a Welsh girl I love rugby! 
    I then studied Veterinary Science at Liverpool university and have been there for the last 5 years! 
    Outside of work I love going for walks with friends and dogs, especially if I find a few coffee shops on the way!

    Sam graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2020 and has been fond of Wales from a young age, as his siblings attended Welsh universities. He is keen on soft tissue surgery and enjoys consultations and supporting the strong bonds between pets and owners. He enjoys running and playing hockey and has recently taken up surfing in Porthcawl.

    Grace is originally from Ireland and graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2014. She joined our team in 2021 and has a keen interest in surgery, pain management and anaesthesia. She has three dogs and a cat at home, and enjoys dog sports and man trailing. She is also a keen hiker and enjoys returning to Cork when she gets a chance.

    Ellie graduated from the University of Bristol in July 2020 and joined our team in 2021. She enjoys all aspects of small animal work, particular internal medicine and surgery. She grew up in Bridgend, and enjoys running, going to the gym and walking her Labrador Finn.

    Originally from India, Natasha moved to the UK in 2018 to study at the University of Bristol. She graduated in 2023 and soon after made the move across bridge. She has a special interest in surgery and neurology, and in her free time enjoys going to the gym, cooking, and travelling.

    Caroline graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006, and has a particular interest in ophthalmology, medicine, cardiology and acupuncture. She is a keen traveller, having visited Africa, Australia, and many European countries, but now travels closer to home with her young family. She also enjoys surfing and windsurfing in her free time.

    Josh graduated from the University of Bristol in 2023. He was born and raised in Hong Kong but has proudly called Porthcawl home for the past 5 years. He enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine but has a keen interest in orthopaedics and surgery. Beyond work, Josh leads an active life, enjoying activities such as playing touch rugby, hiking, cooking, eating, and exploring new destinations through travel.

She has a particular interest in internal and emergency medicine. Outside of work, she enjoys badminton, swimming, cooking new recipes and curling up with a good book.

    Katie qualified from Monmouth College in 2018 and is part of our night nursing team. She enjoys providing nursing care to all inpatients and has a particular interest in critical care cases. In her spare time, she enjoys keeping fit, rock climbing, and going for long walks with her dog Dudley, who she rescued as a puppy.

    Tammy joined our team in 2009 and qualified in 2014. She heads up our night nursing team and has a passion for emergency and critical care, which she has a certificate in. She has a guinea pig and several parrots home, and enjoys taking her four dogs out for long runs!

    Katie joined us in 2018 and qualified the same year. She has a special interest in neonatal, emergency and critical care, having previously worked for Dogs Trust and Cats Protection. In her spare time, she volunteers for the RSPCA and cares for neglected pregnant cats and orphaned kittens. She also has a keen interest in wildlife rehabilitation and enjoys travelling and looking after her own cats.

    Katie joined our team in 2015 and qualified in 2020. She splits her time between our Barry and Bridgend sites and has a particular interest in wound management and orthopaedics. She has three dogs, a horse and a small flock of sheep, and enjoys looking after her vegetable patch, exercising and travelling in her free time.

She spends most of her time at our Cowbridge branch and enjoys meeting the clients and pets that come through our doors. In her spare time, she enjoys riding her horse, walking her dogs, eating out and visiting foreign lands.

    Kerry-Ann joined us as a trainee in 2007 and works as part of the nurse management team She qualified in 2015 and has since developed an interest in orthopaedic nursing and laboratory work. She is a qualified dog groomer and enjoys horse riding, walking her dog, Kobi, and taking camping trips with her husband Dave.

She previously acted as our deputy head-nurse, and now works part-time since starting her family in 2017. She enjoys walking her dogs in her spare time.

She also has a cat, a dog, a tortoise and rats at home!

    Amy joined us in 2009 and qualified in 2013. She has a passion for inpatient nursing and managing critical cases and has an award in anaesthesia and analgesia. She enjoys meeting up with friends and family, helping local charities and fostering ill and injured pets. She adopted her cat, Arthur, after he was brought to us following a road traffic accident.

    Abbie trained as a dancer before joining us in 2014 and has a special interest in neonatal and paediatric care, nutrition and weight management. She has loved animals from a young age and was inspired to pursue a veterinary career after spending time at a Thai elephant sanctuary. She has eight dogs at home, and enjoys travelling, dancing and keeping fit.

    Becci initially joined us as a Saturday girl before qualifying in 2012. She can usually be found at our Llantrisant branch, but also does night nursing shifts at our Bridgend hospital. She enjoys advising on dental treatments and has an interest in exotics. She has a retriever called Sonny, two cats and a chameleon called Leon at home.

    Basil was brought into our practice by a caring member of the public and joined our team in 2012. Once put to rights, he soon demonstrated an extraordinary knack for wrapping our team around his fluffy paws! He spends his time chatting to clients, sleeping, eating and waiting for someone to open doors for him.
