Repeat Prescriptions

Page image

In order for us to dispense a prescription medication the animal must be legally "under our care". This means that we must be satisfied that the animal is stable and healthy on that medication. As a minimum we interpret this requirement as two check-ups a year, one of which may be tied in with the annual vaccination. This gives us an opportunity to check the animal’s weight which can sometimes change markedly over this time period, do a clinical examination and check for problems which may or may not be related to the one for which the pet is on medication. When you think that a dog or cat year equates to seven of ours, you can appreciate how rapidly a previously stable condition can change.

Certain conditions will require more frequent checks and monitoring by blood sample may be recommended.

Please allow 24 hours notice before attempting to collect prescriptions and note that a member of staff may need to contact you regarding your prescription request. Unless otherwise stated, prescriptions will be available for pick up the next working day at our Bridgend branch.

Written prescriptions are available on request, please specify in the "additional comments" section if your requirement is for a written prescription. Please note there is a charge for this service.

A prescription may not be appropriate if your animal is an in-patient or immediate treatment is necessary

You will be informed, on request, of the price of any medicine that may be dispensed for your animal

The general policy of this practice is to re-assess an animal requiring repeat prescriptions every 6 months, but this may vary with individual circumstances.
